Is there a place in Portugal where we can see processing for cork?
Hi Bonnie,
I was interested in your post.
Found this tour, http://www.novacortica.pt/Visite
I have been to Portugal a few times and really love the cork products.
Next time I travel there, seriously thinking of taking this tour.
Thant's for asking about it.
Hi Bonnie,
Our group of 20 people took the tour at Novacortiça in the Algarve this past July. It was an excellent 1 hour tour and all of us learned so much about the cork industry. I highly recommend it and be sure to make a reservation prior to your visit.
We also took this tour last May. Reservations are important as we were 4 but a tour group arrived and joined us so it was a full house. The guide explained (in English) the whole process from harvesting the bark to all the production stages including some guest participation on the factory floor. Other languages were available at different times. There are some unique applications of cork that were interesting and beautiful. Highly recommend this tour.
Thank you all for your replies. I have booked a tour with the company mentioned and they are quick to answer questions,. There are factory tours for $12.50 and for an extra $5 there is a forest tour included. Sounds perfect to me!
