In just over a week, my family and I will be embarking on an 8-night/9-day trip to Portugal with our teenage daughter. While we had initially planned to spend 3 nights in Porto, 2 nights in Cascais, and 3 nights in Lisbon (with a day trip to Sintra), we are now considering adjusting our itinerary. Our daughter wants to visit a beach town but we also feel that including a smaller town like Coimbra, Obidos, or Tomar would create a more well-rounded experience. To do so we would have to forego Cascais or shave a day off of Porto or Lisbon. Our other thought is to keep it as is and do a day trip from Porto (Braga? Aveiro?). Our overall aim is to explore a mix of cultural and historical landmarks, scenic landscapes, and take our 16-year-old daughter's interests into account (think cafes vs. castles). Any insights appreciated!
No suggestions but we are visiting Portugal and will be visiting both Lisbon and Porto with our two teens (age 16) in April. You are smart to include some interests of your daughter's into your plans!! Hope you'll share trip details, especially any family-friendly spots when you return. Have a great journey!
I would not travel from Lisbon to Porto for only two nights. With such a short time frame, I might even consider deleting Porto altogether. I really like Porto but, if you want a well rounded experience, you could add Coimbra (largest) and stay in the southern half of the country. You really are covering a lot of territory for such a short trip.
Since it really isn’t beach weather, you could also do one night in Cascais instead of two. There are no blockbuster sights but it is a very charming town. And, beaches galore.
Remember three nights I really two days. I think you need more time in Lisbon. You can do a day trip to Cascais easily from there.
I know I haven’t given you any answers, but maybe some things to think on.
I should have included that we will be flying into Porto and out of Lisbon. So we will be traveling down the coast en route to Cascais. But thanks to additional insight adding another stop onto the trip seems unwise.
