We love Portugal. Not sure about hotels near hiking trails.

However, in Porto, I recommend this wonderful B&B:
In Patio Guesthouse.

We visited Santiago de Compostela in NW Spain, north of Porto. We learned that pilgrims hike all the way across Europe and Iberia to reach Santiago. If you google trails for this, you can likely find some that go through Portugal.

If you end up going mid-summer, I think northern Portugal would be your best bet since it's likely to be cooler than the south.

Madeira could be lovely at just about any time (though not rain-free), but it requires a flight.

If you want to stay near Lisbon, the Sintra hills have lots of hiking trails.
In the Algarve, you can hike along the coast around Lagos.
I’m not certain any one place woul give you enough hiking for a month. You might consider two weeks in a couple of locations.

Hello martino529,

If you choose north, you can consider the hike in Peneda-Gerês National Park - great landscape, fauna and flora ;)
To the south you could stay close to Costa Vicentina (western Algarve and Alentejo) - there are many hiking trails over there: linear trails and circular routes as well. Just check the `Rota Vicentina site for more information ;)

Enjoy Portugal ;)

Sao Miguel in the Azores is absolutely gorgeous and has many, many hiking trails with hot springs, waterfalls, beautiful mountaintop views all over the island. The island is not that big and air BnB's throughout. Check out the house Casa do Mare in Porto Formosa with direct waterfront views.

Hello,

It depends if you want to go north or south of Portugal.
If you choose the south, my advice is to pick one of the trails of Rota Vicentina or Via Algarviana.

If you consider to go to the north, you have beautiful trails in Peneda-Gerês National Park, in Douro Valley or near the coast between Porto and Viana do Castelo. My advice is to contact Portugal Green Walks. They are specialist in walking tours in the north
