We have not been to Portugal before and are thinking about spending one week there this June while on a 4-week trip to Ireland/Scotland. We would like to spend most of that week enjoying a seaside setting, maybe in two or three places, long lunches and walks, touring special places but not doing a lot of touristy things. We'd fly into Lisbon and probably rent a car, but would be open to taking trains. We would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks in advance!
Near Lisbon, I absolutely loved my 3-day stay in Ericeira in Aug 2019. Whitewashed town above the ocean with scenic beaches, great restaurants, and a very chill vibe while also quite polished at the same time.
It is very close to Lisbon airport, and Mafra Palace, Sintra, Obidos are easily visited from there (esp. with a car).
The water is COLD.
If you are driving, go to the St Vincent coast. Zambujeira do Mar or Odeceixe are great bases with fabulous beaches. Much quieter than Algarve.
