HI
We are thinking about going to Portugal in mid August for about 10 days. Is it possible to take the train from Lisbon to Porto with stops along the way? Trying not to rent a car but would like to see sites along the way. Also, is there anyway to get to the national park up north without a car?
Thank you in advance
The answer to your first question is yes: you can stop in Coimbra, in particular. Worth it for a night or two. I do not think that you have time for more than one stop, anyway - the Lisbon area deserves 4-5 days and the Porto area deserves 3-4, in my opinion.
As for Peneda-Geres NP: there might be tours, but otherwise it is difficult without a car. You could still reach the village of Gerês, but might have to rely on taxis beyond that. In any case, not sure you have much time for it unless you "sacrifice" the stop between Lisbon and Porto.
Consider taking a bus. Stops in Nazare and Coimbra. We just did that and will take train south back to Lisbon. OMIO app is great for bus and train reservations.
I agree. With about 10 days, 3 town is enough. Coimbra really only needs one full day but you may want 2N for that. 2 full days in Porto barely enough and you can day trip by train to Aveiro and/or day trip to the Douro Valley (multiple options) if you stay longer. 3 full days (4N) in Lisbon is the minimum there. If you want to add another town, visit Sintra for 1-2N from Lisbon or daytrip to Cascais. . Will you be flying open-jaw into Lisbon and out of Porto?
HI, yes open jaw travel
thanks for the information everyone
