We will be ending a river cruise in Porto in May and plan to spend a few days there before flying home from Lisbon. My question is: for a 12:50 PM flight out of Lisbon, is there a good train from Porto to Lisbon or preferably the Lisbon airport we could take in the morning or would it be more prudent to get to Lisbon the day before?

For international flights you're required to be at the airport 3hours before the flight.
The fastest train from Porto Campanhã to Lisbon Oriente is about 3hours, add the time from Lisbon Oriente station to the airport
(either by taxi or subway) and finding your airline check in at the terminal while carrying luggage.
I would go to Lisbon the day before, stay at hotel by the airport or nearby and have a relaxed check the next day.
Edit: on our inbound flight to Lisbon before leaving the airport we went to arrivals to find where the check in counter was for our departure - easier to find when returning.
You can the 06:20 out of Porto Sao Bento station (a short train that connects immediately to the fast AP train to Lisbon) that arrives at Oriente station at 9:22. That's close to the airport, so you should easily be there by 9:50, which seems like plenty of time. Save yourself time by checking in online ahead of time if your airline allows this.
If you have not actually been to Lisbon(?), though, I would highly recommend a night or two there in the city not by the airport.
Stay the previous night in Lisbon. No need to try to stay near the airport, the airport is almost in town, any place in central Lisbon will work.
Thanks for the replies. I can see that it is doable but I think in the end we will go back to Lisbon the day before, enjoy that day and go to the airport from There. We will be checked in online and only travel with carry-on luggage but it will still give us a relaxed time at the airport.
