We would like to train to pinhao, boat down the Douro, possibiy visit a winery and have a nice lunch. Is this possible within Pinhao? Thanks
We took the train to Tua in 2017. I wanted to see the dam. I do not recommend Tua if you not into large dams. We then returned to Peso da Régua and visited a museum (http://www.museudodouro.pt) and ate a wonderful lunch (Restaurante Taberna do Jerere) there. The train back to Porto was packed with all the "up the river via boat and back via train" travelers.
The train is a diesel and so it is a bit noisy.
The route is NOT scenic until you are 2/3 of the way to Peso da Régua.
I do not see the point of going all the way to Pinhao.
I think we would boat up/down the Douro next time. (And, we love trains.)
So are you saying, just take a boat down the Douro from Oporto?

No. Take the boat up and down. You go up river from Porto.
If you go down river from Porto, you will arrive at the Atlantic Ocean in a few kilometers. We took the tram to the ocean https://www.stcp.pt/pt/turismo/porto-tram-city-tour/ . We actually rode all 3 trams lines as I love trams.

Sara is a great person. We did a walking tour (https://portoalities.com/en/jewish-tour/) with her in Porto.
