Porto to Merida Spain

2 of us wish to travel from Porto to Merida in one day end September. The trains and bus timetables don’t seem to matchup very well, so the other option is getting a driver and transfer service. Is this possible, and who best to contact in Porto? Any other suggestions would be appreciated, thanks.

I assume you're going to Merida as a destination and not because you think it's "on the way" to somewhere, which it isn't. The train connections themselves are actually pretty good, with no long waits in stations, but it's mostly by slow regional trains, and the leg from Entroncamento to Badajoz operates only once daily at 10:12 a.m. If it were my trip, I would not consider a private driver but might consider how to rearrange the order of the plans.

Thank you for your reply, Laura. Yes, Merida is the destination. I think we might have to do an overnight stop in between the two towns. I’ll check the schedules again, and see the best route.

Extremadura is the back of beyond, though a very interesting place to visit. If you have extra time, I recommend also visiting Caceres and Trujillo. That would at least allow you to make extra use of all that travel time from Porto.

Thank you for your reply. The area looks very interesting, and we are “slow travellers” . Looking forward to spending a few days in the area, including Caceres and Trujillo, before moving on.
