After our visit to Porto we would like to rent a car in order to travel to Douro River Valley for a few days. We are trying to find out whether there is a car rental company that is located in an area where driving won't be a hassle trying to get out of Porto. Another wrinkle is that we will be picking up the car on a Sunday. Appreciate hearing from others who have rented a car in or around Porto before heading to Douro.

We rented from the Avis at the airport & got straight on the highway.
Porto is a medium sized city and not too so bad to negotiate. It is on the Douro River.
Be sure the car rental office is open on Sunday.
We did a wonderful Douro River cruise for a week. If you can swing that, it beats driving.
The railroad runs close to the river, consider that as an option.
The Douro Valley is fantastic, but it is hilly and you won't be making good time on those roads.
Suggest renting a GPS with your vehicle, unless you have one or a phone you can use in Europe.
In Porto, we found the very best B & B, it is called the In Patio Guesthouse. Wonderful.
