We have never been in Portugal before and arrive in Porto at 2pm Sunday September 10th and depart from Lisbon September 25th. We are planning on seeing the sights in Porto on Monday the 11th and departing Porto Tuesday the 12th taking a day cruise up the Douro River continuing on from there for the rest of our trip by rental car.
I have 2 questions:
1. From the guide book I understand Mondays isn't the best day to be in Porto as many major sites are closed but that is the day we are there. Any suggestions for Monday in Porto? Is it really that closed up that we should extend to another day (taking a day from somewhere else in our itinerary)?
2. Is it best to depart our cruise up the Douro River at Peso da Regua or should we continue to Pinhao? My thought is that at either we would stay the night then rent a car to continue on the rest of our Portugal trip but no idea where we'd be best to start the car part of the trip from.
