Porto Lodging for 2 nights with good location

In reading the Rick Steves' Portugal book, I was excited about "InPatio Guesthouse" for our (wife and I) travel this September. Thinking 5 months out would be early enough to successfully reserve, only to find out they are booked for one of the two nights we are staying (itinerary is mostly final at this point, so little flexibility).

Anyway, I trust this forum site over diving into a booking site right away (and prefer to book direct), so thought I'd post to get some advice.

1, we are looking for a good location. The "splurge" locations listed in RS book, in Ribeira area, did not look that exciting and likely very pricey (that said, we're ok "splurging" if someone has an enthusiastic recommendation).

NOTE: we will have a car, as we driving in via Douro Valley. As driving/parking is a concern in Porto, we'd love to find a safe/convenient place to drop the car off for 2 nights while we explore Porto. We travel light and can walk to hotel.

Any thoughts would be very much appreciated.

Mike,

I too looked into staying at InPatio Guesthouse and they were already booked for our dates 6 months in advance!

My daughter and I will be staying at My Story Apartments Santa Catarina next month. I don’t know about parking but you can contact them with your questions.

Have a wonderful trip!

In 2017 we stayed at the Quality Inn Porto which I see is now the Legendary Hotel Porto. The room was nice and the garage facility was nearby and I found it easy to use. It is in the upper part of the town and everything is easy too get to going down hill. Getting back is another story as up hill can get to be very steep. On our second trip down to the river we found the funicular, just east of the Ponte Luis I bridge, that will take you up to a spot that is an easy walk to the hotel for a couple Euros.

We stayed at the Mercador Guesthouse in Porto and were very happy with it. It is up the hill, fairly close to the tower de Clerigos. We walked everywhere. The Ribeira area seemed extremely crowded to me when we were there. The restaurants near Mercador were good too, and a lot less touristy.

Thank you for the replies. I just booked at Mercador. The review looked mostly very good. If any others have a high recommendation to look into, I'm happy to explore and re-book.
