WE read the Douro river cruises shut down between jan. and april for maintenance on the locks.
does anyone know if that is true?
Does anyone know if there are local scheduled boat rides in Porto that the locals take to get to towns along the Douro? .

The Cruzeiros Douro website says they run all year. These are the small boats. You could check the cruise line website for the multi day cruises.
To my knowledge, the locals do not use the river to travel. They may still use the river to move some wine down river but mainly the cruises are for tourists.
