Porto. Lisbon. October. To Do. & Hotels.

Hi RSTF
October. Our trip to Portugal now includes going to Porto and then to Lisbon. We have 6 days. Asking those who have visited both cities if more time should be spent in Porto or Lisbon with day trips to towns close by. Beaches, etc. Travel by train. A car rental is an option.
Welcome all Hotel recommendations in each city too.
Sandy

I’d do two days in Porto, four in Lisbon. Porto does have a beach that you can reach by bus or train. Otherwise, it’s a nice city for wandering around on foot. Cross the river & take the cable car.

It’s then an easy train ride (I think it’s two or three hours?) to Lisbon, which is much bigger and more to do in the city itself. Plus you could do the classic day trip to Sintra - take the train from Lisbon’s Rossio station then pick up the Sintra tour bus. Another nice half-day trip is to take the train to Cascais, for beaches & fresh fish restaurants.

In Porto, the Hotel Carris Porto Ribeiro was very comfortable with beautifully designed rooms in a great location, and not too expensive.

In Lisbon, I stayed at Brown’s Downtown which had a great location & room but tiny bathroom, and breakfast was served in a separate location.

The InPatio Guesthouse in Porto is the absolutely best B&B we have ever visited. It only has five rooms, so book early.

Hi Sandy!

Agree with the first reply. With 6 days, the best way to split them is 2 in Porto, 3 in Lisbon and 1 day to visit Sintra from Lisbon.
