Porto in October

HI, we've narrowed our itinerary down to help from some of you folks. Thanks!

We are going to be staying either 3 nights in Porto or 1 night at a quinta in Douro Valley and 2 nights in Porto. We are driving from Nazare and thought we'd stop and stay in Douro on our way to Porto.

My questions - is that logical, or would we be better off just staying 3 nights in Porto and driving to Douro for the day? And can anyone tell me how much parking is in Porto? I've found several hotels that just say "surcharge". I'm wondering if it is very expensive and I should keep looking for one with free parking that might not have the greatest location.

Thanks in advance!

Terri, parking in Porto (central area) is hard and expensive. Do you really need a car for those two days?

Hi there! Good question, and after reading some other forum comments and questions I think not. I think maybe we should drop the car off in Porto and take the train back to Lisbon where we fly home the next morning.

Anything we should know about taking a train from Porto to Lisbon, such as which stations? We are flying out of Lisbon at 10am, and will spend the night somewhere in Lisbon the night before.

And does anyone have suggestions on hotels that would be easy for a train arrival and train/metro to the airport in the morning?

Thanks much!
