Porto ideas after Rick Steves' tour

We are two very active older women who enjoy exploring and wondering...and relaxing over a glass of wine!
In early October, after ending the tour, we are staying in the area for 5 more days.
Thinking of staying in Porto for 1 or 2 day trips and then moving to Viana do Castelo by the water for 3 nights. Does this seems like a good plan? We aren't planning on renting a car. Any other suggestions to consider?

It is a wonderful idea! We toured all of Portugal and our favorite area was the Minho which you refer to. We stayed in Guimares and I recommend you visit it, the first capital city of Portugal. Not far from Viana do Castelo. Enjoy!

Hi
Braga and Guimaraes are two inland options about 1 hour from Porto.
Aveiro is a coastal option about 1 hour south from Porto.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check them all out. Would you recommend staying in Guimares or Viana do Castelo?

Hi
Guimaraes is inland and Viana do Castelo is coastal.
I prefer Viana only because I prefer to be by the ocean - personal choice entirely.
In Viana there is a piazza - praca da republica - no cars are allowed and a couple of cafes have tables on the piazza, I found it relaxing and enjoyable. Near by is church with a decorated altar.
The Santa Luzia sanctuary has great views of the area.
