Hello fellow travelers, I have already learned so much from your stories and comments! My husband and I (73 & 69) will be taking a roundtrip Porto cruise in Oct. 2025 and have been researching mid tier hotels for our pre & post stays of one night each.?? ( We are walkers and foodies, food tour? Cathedrals & maybe museums if time allows and would like to know your positive experiences.) Our flight arrives mid morning and depending on "jet lag" we hope to have the day for exploring. Then will have the entire day after debarking the ship. Looks like the port Leixoes? is approx. 6 miles from city center. This is our 5th trip to Europe in the last 11 years so we kind of know what to expect.
Because we had a car, we stayed at NH Porto Jardim since it has a garage and was easy to reach. It is more of a business hotel, but is quiet. It offered a very good breakfast buffet. From it, we walked all over Porto without any trouble.
Hi Jaimeelsabio,
Thank you for the hotel suggestion! It has good reviews, will add it to my list.
A Hotel that Rick's tour uses is: Grande Hotel do Porto

We have not stayed there yet. We will in June. His hotels on tour are well located and mid-tier at least.
Good Luck!
Teresa
Visiting Porto I like to stay outside the city center; I prefer being on the beach, so I stay north of downtown in Matoshinhos. There i can walk in the sand and watch the sun go down without being surrounded by hundreds of people. And I've found the food to be quite good. It's an easy bus ride into the main city, and cost about 2 euro. It's also easy to use Uber or a taxi if you want to go visit the port cellars. Porto is a very interesting city, but once you get away from the river it's pretty steep and crowded.
We are currently staying at the Moov Hotel Porto Centro as described in the RS guidebook and like it very much. Clean, modern and not far from the top of the funicular and a long uphill walk from the Sao Bento train station. Lots of construction around here, but we figured it out. We’re about your age.
Best B&B EVER was the In Patio Guesthouse in Porto. Fantastic, only five rooms, so book early.
Hello Geovagriffith, thanks so much, yes In Patio Gust House has great reviews! it is definitely on my list to reconsider!
We also are 142 combined-years young. Just returned from a 2-week trip. 2nd time we've visited Porto, this time with a 2-night stay at Porto Duke's House (followed by a one-day rail trip up the Douro and back.)
Completely enjoyed our apartment on Duque de Loulé. Easy walk from there to Batalha Square, Rua Santa Catarina, Bolhão Market, the local Supermercado Minipreço, and walking distance to São Bento station. Bus stop out front of the apt. for reaching Porto-Campanha station. The very clean/tidy/cheery/quiet apt. has an equipped and well-supplied kitchen, roomy bedroom with excellent bed, balcony off the kitchen. Friendly and helpful owner met us at the apt at the scheduled time for a complete orientation to the apt. and the city as well - she reviewed nearby restaurants (including Casa Guedes and Lado-B) and provided a map with instructions for getting around on foot. She seems to anticipate every need; though we did need to hit the Minipreço for some whole milk, the breakfast supplies (including fresh roll/pastry delivery) were just right for us.
If you're looking for a solid mid-range hotel in Porto with excellent location and comfort, I highly recommend Hotel Moov Porto Centro. It’s located in Praça da Batalha, right in the city center — walking distance to São Bento station, Rua das Flores, and the Ribeira area. The hotel is modern, very clean, and reasonably priced considering its location. Despite being in a lively area, the rooms are quiet, and the staff are very helpful.
Also, a great way to kick off your stay in Porto is by taking a walking tour with a local guide. It helps you get your bearings and learn about the rich history and hidden corners of the city that you might otherwise miss.
Finally, if you prefer something with a bit more local charm, the Bonfim neighborhood is up-and-coming, quieter than the Ribeira but still central. Some lovely boutique guesthouses have popped up there in recent years.
Hope that helps — enjoy your time in Porto!
We found the Uba - Heritage & Wine from reading this forum and were not disappointed! Uba Heritage & Wine, email: [email protected], is owned by Luisa and her grandmother, +351966987266, a 3-story home renovated beautifully and tastefully, divided into suites, close to everything in Porto within walking distance. This property has been in their family for over 100 years, has all the modern conveniences and was recommended by other participants on this forum, which we were so grateful to find, being it our first time in Porto.
I stayed at chic&basic gravity (https://www.chicandbasic.com/en/hotel-gravity-porto/). Great location, walked everywhere. Really nice rooms, great staff, excellent breakfast, and really fun quirky modern decor.
Thank You to Teresa, KGC, kentfast, Russ, debora.go.olveira, mrswhite4scf and Lane for your time and Hotel suggestions and helpful hints. I have printed out & made notes of all your good hints and info. from each hotel's website; sure has helped us narrow down our choices. Obrigada!!!
Another vote for In Patio Guesthouse. Great central location but quiet. Lovely hosts, delicious breakfasts. We loved it!
