Porto apartment locations

Hi,
There are three apartments I am interested in staying. They are all close proximity to Sao Bento. I read it is a convenient location. Please correct me if I am wrong. Given I am a female solo traveler who will arrive in Porto late at night, I am looking for a place that I would feel safe (hopefully no homeless or drugs in front of an apartment). Here are the three with name and description of each location of the apartment. If you are familiar with the area, would you please share your experience or local insights for any safety measure? I could attach a map but maybe it is not an option on this forum. Thank you in advance for your help.

  1. Spot apartments Sao Bento (3 minute walk to Southwest of Sao Bento station) Rua Mouzinho da Silveira 322/334, Sé, Porto, 4050-418, Portugal
  2. Locally yours Oporto apartment (1 minute walk to west of Sao Bento station) Praça de Almeida Garrett Nº 32, 1º andar, Sé, Porto, 4000-069, Portugal
  3. Casas do Loureiro (3 minute walk to south of Sao Bento station) Rua do Loureiro 45, Sé, Porto, 4000-328, Portugal

I am open for other areas you may recommend as well.

I was just in Porto last week. I think the area around the train station seemed generally safe. But there is construction that makes it difficult to manage getting around. I would not want to arrive late at night to that. It is hard to figure out how to cross the streets. I also personally would not be comfortable checking into an apartment late at night, especially by myself. You would probably have to be managing a lock box at night, since most owners won’t meet you late at night. You might consider a hotel with a desk instead.

We stayed close to the Mercado Bolhao, in a beautiful boutique guesthouse called Casa Kala, the area felt safe and easy walk to everything we wanted to see. The Metro construction was not a problem in that area. So I would recommend looking around Mercado Bolhao and Capela das Almas.

Makes sense, BethFL. Thank you for your advice. It really helps. Now am considering Ribeira or Casa Kala (close to Mercado Bolhao) following Karl’s reco. Which area would be better in terms of proximity and getting Bolt early in the morning? I have 8 am flight to catch back to the U.S.

i would probably go with mercado area. Down by the river the roads are very narrow and may be harder for early uber. But even if not, it can be noisy. We have met people on our trip who complained about that.

We stayed in Locally Yours (option 2) earlier this month. Directly across from Sao Bento. The construction did not bother us; the location was very convenient, there are a couple of cafes downstairs and easy walking distance to restaurants. There were homeless people that slept in the entryway of the Tourist Info on the ground floor but they were gone and the area was cleaned by 7:30 AM. Would not hesitate to stay there again.

Thank you, Karl. I have to leave early in the morning for the airport so it really helps knowing about homeless situation!
