Porto and Azores

Have you spent time on the Douro River? We stayed in a quinta between Regua and Pinhao. Absolutely stunning. North of Porto we enjoyed Braga and Guimaraes. Very pretty cities with lots of history. Otherwise, I've heard you can spend a week in the Azores.

Thanks. How many nights would you stay in Porto before moving on? Did you go by train?

We stayed 3 nights in Porto and I thought that was good. On the Douro, we spent 2 nights and would have enjoyed 3.

Thanks! How did you get from Porto to the Douro Valley?

We had a car for a while. We were traveling north, stopped in the Douro, then drove to Braga/Guimaraes, returned the car in Braga, took the bus (there were train strikes) to Porto. There is a train from Porto to Pinhao. Looks like it is quite charming.

We were in Portugal in April and did Lisbon & Porto,, then flew to Madeira for a few nights then flew to the Azores. Since you've already been to Lisbon you could doing Porto-Madeira-Azores, that is if you don't mind adding more flights. We loved our time in Madeira. Of course plenty of other places to explore on the mainland but just another suggestion.
