Porto

Porto question;

Currently our trip to Portugal is;

5 nights Lisbon
3 nights Coimbra
6 nights Porto

Is it worth staying along the Duoro river so like - Peso da Régua ?

The 5 days will include day trips to : Aviera, Braga and Guimaraes, one day for Porto itself so staying in Regua am I trying to do too much ???

6 nights includes the night we arrive, so we have 5 full days available.

I can't imagine only having a day to see anything of Porto. And the area right along the river, both sides, is the most heavily touristed part of town. It's nice to walk around until about 0930, after that not so much.

But I wouldn't just plan one day for any of the side trips you're planning either.

I think you are trying to do a lot with only six nights in Porto. You could spend 3 or 4 days just in Porto and not see it all. Day trips are nice, but why not take the time to see where you are based? Also, when are you traveling? The Douro is pretty dull and brown in the off-season. If you're interested in port wine, you'd be far better off to visit one of the port wine houses in Gaia. I don't think that Aveiro is worth a day if you're going to be there in fall-winter, and maybe not even in summer. It has colorful boats on canals and bridges, but that's about it. It wouldn't be fun or pretty in cold or damp weather. Guimaraes and Braga are both worthy of a day trip, but considering your limited time, I'd choose one or the other.

YES, do the Douro river valley. We took a week long cruise and it was fantastic. You can take the train from Porto up the river. The train tracks run on the north bank of the river. Regua and Pinhao are the places to see.

Thanks for the replies.

Still unsure what to do, also we are travelling in early April so approx 6th we will be in Porto.

Peso da Regua - 2 nights
Porto for the remaining 4 nights then just do Guimares (1 day) and Aviera (1/2 day plus bus to Costa Nova 1/2 day) and 2 days in Porto

How does this sound ?

Appreciate everyone's feedback.

Too many day trips and not enough time in Porto. I needed three full days and did day trips on two days.
