Please help! I am currently in Europe and want to go to Lisbon

Hello,
I am currently in the South of France and will soon be in Spain. As I am in Europe, I do not have access to a Rick Steves guide book for Portugal. Dates for my Lisbon trip would be approximately November 2 - November 7.
1) I will fly from Seville to Lisbon and will not rent a car. Best hotel areas and specific hotel suggestions?
2) I can stay 3 - 5 days depending on my interests (and your suggestions!).
3) I prefer to do only one day trip outside of Lisbon (Obidos, Alcobaca, Nazare, Betalha Monastery, Fatima). Yes, I will have to go with a commercial tour company.
4) Is there a good walking tour company in Lisbon? I would also be willing to hire a private guide, but I do not have contact information.
5) Transportation suggestions????
6) Any other general information or comments you could give me would be helpful. I am a seasoned traveler with specific interests in art and history.

Thank you!!!!!!!! Jonna Robinson

If you don't get any specifics here there is always the tourist information office once you arrive. They usually have lots of information about local tours, etc.

In this Travel Forum, go to General Europe, then choose Portugal. You will have access to many postings. I stayed at Hotel Fluorescent a few years ago. It was good. I was on a RS tour. It's near the train station and "restaurant row." Taxi to the airport wasn't expensive.

Rick's books are sold in bookstores in Europe. I don't know which bookstores however. If you can't find a Rick Steves' guide you might try something else like a Lonely Planet guidebook. You should be able to find France and Spain. Ask your hotel if there is a bookstore nearby. If you are flying, the airports will have bookstores or news stands that carry some travel books. You should be able to find some guidebooks there too.

In the meantime, here are a couple tour companies you could try.

Gray Line/Cityrama Tours

There will be plenty of transportation from the airport to the city center. Trollys, Buses, and some subway will get you around the city easy enough. As mentioned earlier in this thread, check out the board on travel to Portugal. It will have lots of recommendations as well. I hope this helps some.
