Places to stay in Lisbon and Porto

4 of us are traveling to Portugal at the end of Sept for 3 weeks. We would prefer to stay in one place for at least a week and preferably not hotels. Can anyone provide me guidance?

We had a wonderful experience renting an apartment from VisitingPortugal.com.

For Porto, we rented an apartment from Casa do Porto

I've stayed at the Lisbonaire Apartments in Lisbon which is a good location for catching the metro, bus, and train. Basic apartment, but has a front desk so can get assistance if needed. Also listed on booking.com, so you can look at the reviews.

Hello from Wisconsin,

Whoops, I miss read your heading.

There is a great museum a bit off the main tourist area that is worthy of visit.
Calouste Gulbenkian Museum. So many museums like to show off that they have four paintings by someone famous. And they are all lesser works. This museum has one piece of work by an artist and it is great. And so it goes through the whole of the museum, why show you two of something of second order, when you have one of first magnitude. A 'no clutter' museum.

And the history of the owner of this private collect is nice, sad, on one hand but nice.

Porto, the InPatio Guesthouse is the VERY BEST BnB we have ever visited.
It only has five rooms, so book early.

177784 That's the property ID for our VRBO we just left in Lisbon. It was 2br/2ba in the Alfama district. Two twin beds in each room. Large kitchen. Huge comfy living room. Cozy Terrace. Safe. Right on the tram line but REALLY quiet. We mostly walked everywhere anyway. Easily served by Uber. Just down the street in both directions are convenience markets. Two Fado eateries nearby. Right across the street is an amazing coffee breakfast and lunch place. Average nightly price is less than $250.

Also if you plan to go to the palace in Sintra GO FIRST THING IN THE MORNING. The crowds are miserable in the afternoon, which we discovered the hard way.
