My friend and I are travelling to Europe for a month, but we have an 8-hour layover in Lisbon. Anyone know of a good local restaurant near the airport we should check out? We want it near the airport because we don't want to kill too much time. Plus, I know the airport is fairly close to the middle of the city (according to google maps). Any recommendations would be much appreciated!

I am never in favor of leaving the airport between flights. That said, 8 hours is a stretch. The Subway (Metro) has a terminus at the airport. If you can stow your luggage hop on that and make your way to Rossio square. It is the red line to Alameda, hop out and get on green line to Rossio. Same in reverse. Ah, but many places are only open after 7pm.
Google 'Restaurante Floresta de Santana'. This is a neat neighborhood, friendly, safe. And for under 10 euro you will have a grilled robalo (sea bass) that you won't forget with more decent red wine than you should probably drink. The main is 6.9 euro.
Don't worry about what the neighborhood looks like if you are there at night...it is fine.
