Just back from Portugal last week and this is a comment for people planning to travel the Douro Valley. In Pinhão, there are now two additional easy quintas where one can try port wines, even if one is on foot: Quinta do Bomfim, located very close to the Vintage Hotel/Academia do Vinho, where one may try all the Symington company ports (Dow's, Warre's, Graham's, Quinta do Vesuvio, etc.) and tour their facility; and Quinta das Carvalhas, which is just across the bridge (south side of Douro) from Pinhão and the Vintage Hotel, and offers tastings of Real Companhia Velha/Royal Oporto port wines. In addition Carvalhas has guided tours in their own open-top tour bus which can take you to the top of their quinta for some grand views.
