Perol / Gas haulers strike

I will be driving in rental car from Lisbon to Algarve and local area for about a week in early September. Can anybody give me a boots on the ground report on what is going on. News on this state side & the internet is sparse at best. I'm trying to decide if I bail on these plans and stay in Spain. Thanks much!

The strike is over - for now. It’s hard to tell what will happen in September, though. I wouldn’t necessarily change your plans, though. Even during the strike, there were few problems. Drivers were allowed 25 liters of gas per time at the gas station. My friends with cars didn’t seem to curtail their driving at all. And, Portugal seemed to have a pretty good system in place with many ‘emergency’ gas stations all over the country that would have gas - no matter how long the strike continued.

Update as of this morning - A new strike has been called for 7-22 September. However, the upcoming strike (if it does happen) will only be on weekends and the truckers will not do overtime.
If you want to keep up to date, The Portugal News is an online newspaper in English. It’s where I get a fair amount of my info.
Come on - Portugal pretty wonderful! And, striking is a common occurrence all over Europe!
