Pensao Londres in Lisbon

Looking for an inexpensive, but clean hotel room in Lisbon. Would love to be near the city center or at least near metro, bus or tram so that I can reduce the hill walking. I found Pensao Londres on either TA or Lonely Planet with fairly good reviews. What do you think? Have any of you stayed at this place? My budget is $75-100/night - single occupancy.

Thanks, Linda

We once looked into this Pensao but have never stayed there. I checked on booking.com and the reviews are also positive and it is in walking distance to many sights and restaurants so it seems a good place to stay. We have always stayed at Residencial Florescente which seemed more convenient to us and is also in walking distance to metro, bus, and train as well as the sea and many sights. We do not eat dinner there but walk to Ho Caldas Restaurante, about a 15 minute walk from Florescente and 20 min from Londres. So to answer your question, although we have not stayed there, it does seem to be a nice place to stay.

Carol, thank you so much for the response. This will be my first trip to Portugal and it is at the end of my time in Spain, so I wanted something nice that wouldn't break the bank. For the most part, i am staying in hostels because i find it more fun on solo travel. The Residentia looks good too.

Happy travels.

Linda-
That is where I stayed on my trip to Lisbon. It is wonderful but it is at the top of a hill so be prepared to walk. It is near the Bairro Alto where I spent most of my evenings. Even if you don't stay there, the view from the vista point on Rua Dom Pedro V is amazing.

Hi Linda,
i'm new in the forum, (46 Years, Portuguese living in Lisbon) so i'll try to be very simple in some points.

CONS:
1. Pensão Londres is fine if you got a good room (street view)
2. Bairro Alto is noisy at night (especially at the weekends)
3. Is in the top of a hill, there are some - but not many- Bus and a Lift (Elevador da Glória).
4. Check if they have a lift in the building (historic buildings)

PROS:
1. The views,
2. the crowd (young travellers from all over)
3. An amazing bakery near the entry (http://www.cm-lisboa.pt/uploads/pics/tt_address/lxi-3328-01.jpg)
4. At walking distance you have: (Restaurants, Bars, Antique Stores, Sight seeing, Amazing boutiques at «Princepe Real», a underground water cistern built around 1700, and lots more)

My tip for you - and the Forum:
You've got a nice budget for this kind of Hotel (we call this «Pensão», because it has less features). All of this good things you can experience out of you sleeping room. Lisbon is a compact city, is a walkable city - if you got sneakers, you must know that our beutiful pavement is thugh for the feets (https://youtu.be/WBd-fMzXR08).
I send my foreigner friends to: «Hotel», «Pensão» and «Residencial» (this are Keywords) in the area of «Av. Almirante Reis», slightly away from the buzz, but with subway, Bus, Taxi and better: less pricy good service.

I hope this is helpful
boa viagem

Wow, this is really special that you took the time to post to my question about Pensao Londres and appreciate your suggestions. I will have a look at accommodations closer to Av. Almirante Reis. I want to be in an area that is easily accessible to restaurants, bars and placas but at the same time, I do want to explore the Belem area and the Monument to the Discoverers. Thank you Alvarro for sharing.

One possibility would be Casa de Sao Mamede, which is a lovely quiet hotel located a little further up the hill from Pensao Londres.
