Passport Expiration in Over 6 Months

Hi, My name is Chris and I live in the US. I plan to fly TAP to Portugal on 9/2/2023. I then plan to visit Spain and Italy before leaving from Portugal on 10/2/2023. My passport was issued on 4/23/2014 and expires on 4/22/2024. I will be leaving the country with ~6 months and 20 days left on my passport before expiration. Will the airline let me onto my flight? I worry that if I submit my passport for renewal, it will not arrive in time given my travel time is 9 weeks away. Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks, Chris

You should probably check with the airline....
And yes, unless you get a passport expedited they are taking a long time....sent our off 9 week and two days ago it was received...and we have heard nothing else...really glad we don't need until November.

Check with TAP. Regardless of what the requirements actually are, if the airline does not let you board, you stay home. Many airlines default to the safe side, since you are allowed 90 days of stay, even though you are staying a few weeks, they assume you may stay the whole 90 days...so look for 6 months of validity.

I think you are probably OK, but renewing now is always a good choice, barring that, verify with the airline.

I would not renew now as the current state dept website says renewals are taking 10-13 weeks with two weeks possibly added on either end to allow for mail processing.

TAP Air Portugal states:

Make sure that your ID has not expired.

Check to make sure your documents, especially your passport, are in order. The required passport validity varies from one country to another, so always check. This will ensure that you are not denied entry into a foreign country.

So, if I understand this correctly, they are going off of the requirements of the country, Portugal, which is 3 months. And since TAP is the airline of Portugal, I can't see them having a different requirement than their own country.
