Palace hotel choice Lisbon, Portugal

We are thinking about a November trip 2023 that would include several nights at Pousada Palácio de Queluz in Lisbon. We think we’d like the ambiance and the location isn’t bad with bus and train stops nearby. This would be part of a TAP airlines fly and stay trip and then on to Italy and other places for 2 more weeks. We’ve never been to Portugal and the flights are inexpensive from our major, nearby airport this fall.

If we stayed in Lisbon and explored by public transportation with a day trip here and there we think it would whet our appetites for a more Portugal oriented trip in a future year. Has anyone stayed at a repurposed palace hotel in Lisbon? There are several and this one’s location and price at about 119€ per night, refundable rate with breakfast looks good. Any personal recommendations for Lisbon palace hotels?

The Pousadas is a well respected group of specialty hotels in Portugal. It seems to me to be similar to the group of hotels in Spain, Posadas of Spain. Many seek them out or have a goal to stay in all of them. I'd stay there if the location worked with my plans.

Just to be clear, it's not located near the historic area of Lisbon, but 15 kilometers away in Queluz. It would take you around 30 minutes to get to Lisbon. Probably would be a good idea to map out exactly what you want to see and if you are good with the possible extra time to get to those locations.

Pousadas are historical buildings ( convents, monasteries, etc.) that have been converted to hotels, run by the Pestana hotel group that manages/owns other hotels.

We have stayed at some Pousadas in the past and always enjoyed our stays but have not stayed at the one in Queluz.

Across the street from the Pousada is our favorite palace in Portugal - Palácio de Queluz,
however we find the town of Queluz unappealing.
On the plus side Queluz is about halfway between Lisbon and Sintra on the train line.

We would rather stay in Cascais/Estoril, they're beachfront and more appealing to us.
They have easy access to Sintra (bus) and Lisbon ( train).

Thank you all for information and insight. We are still considering but will look at more options too. Decisions to be made soon whether or not to do this fall trip.
