Overight between Porto and Evora

Hello,

My husband and I have never done a one-night stay on any of our trips but going from Porto to Evora using the more scenic N route (which we want) makes for a longer day and therefore less time to check out some of the towns along the way.

So, we were thinking of doing just an overnight to break up the drive and considering staying in Obidos.

I'm reading all opinions of the various towns and whether we should stop at them. Currently, google maps says getting from our guesthouse in Porto to Obidos is roughly 4.5 hours. We plan on leaving in the morning but am looking for suggestions on 1 or 2 towns we could visit along the way. I was thinking Nazaré but then I read on this forum comments on how it's just a beach town and they don't know why RS has it in his book. Then I also read Aveiro also doesn't offer much.

Granted, we would just be stopping for a quick stroll and maybe a bite so maybe it doesn't matter but just looking for suggestions from people for a good stop(s) along the way.

Nazaré intrigues me a bit with the big ways but we will also be staying in the Algarve so will get some beach town time. Rick also seems to like Coimbra so maybe that would be better.

Suggestions?

I'm not sure what the N route is, but I recently visited Coimbra and Tomar, and I think either or both would be wonderful.

I visited Coimbra as a day trip from Porto. The university and especially the library are definitely worth seeing.

I spent the night in Tomar on the way from Porto to Lisbon. The Convento de Cristo and the Castelo there are among my favorite things I saw in Portugal, and the town is charming.

If you are staying in Obidos, Tomar would probably be inconveniently out of the way. I haven't been to Obidos, so I can't comment on it.
