On Lisbon

Hi,

I hope you are well and safe.

I'm going to Lisbon from Porto tomorrow.

It will be my first time.

I don't like doing touristy things, but I'm open to doing them in Lisbon.
Personally, I like to eat at local and cheap places and see local art, but I'm willing to give Lisbon's touristy landmarks or things a shot.

Also, can anyone recommend day trips? I heard Sintra, Cacicas are nice.

Muito obrigado.

We enjoyed a day tour to Sintra and Cascais with Lisbon Riders. We gathered a lot of info about Lisbon and beyond from our guide. I have recommended them numerous times on the forum. Very positive feedback. They do other tours as well. That said, if you are not interested in a guided tour, public transportation is an option. Enjoy!

Local art in Lisbon — there is tile work throughout the city, including in the metro stations, often
by the tracks. For more, I loved the Tile Museum, wonderful tiles from ancient to modern. Good for a unique hour or two. A nice modest garden bistro inside the museum, for lunch at modest cost. Of course, I’m a tile lover.

Just got back the other day from 5 weeks in Portugal.

Our favourite neighborhood eatery in Lisbon was Zapata in the Sao Bento area. Full of local families, and just superb, fresh food. Completely unpretentious and un-touristy.

For an off-the-beaten-path day trip, consider the little seaside village of Zambujeira do Mar. Stunning cliff-top views, and it's right on the Rota Vicentina (Fisherman's Trail) walking trail on the coast. Sintra will be absolutely swarming with tourists.

Ablackhole, Sintra is swarming with tourists now? Ugh -- I thought it got better in the off-season.

More and more people are travelling in the "off-season", such that it's now sort of a moot term in some places. Last week Porto was incredibly crowded, so I can't even imagine August.
