November itinerary

My husband and I will be flying into Lisbon November 9 and flying out of Porto on the 22nd. We are trying to finalize an itinerary and need some guidance. We are thinking 5 nights in Lisbon which will allow for visits to Sintra and Belem. We will probably spend 2 nights in Coimbra and 3 in Porto, but not sure where else to stop. We enjoy historic sights, villages and exploring and enjoying other cultures. We very much enjoy hikes and beach walks but not sure what to expect in November. Douro Valley? Silver Coast? The plan is to rent a car at the end of our stay in Lisbon. We will be returning to Portugal for another 5 days in December after visiting Spain and plan to work our way north from Faro to Evora and back to Lisbon to fly home. Suggestions much appreciated! Obrigado.

The weather in November shouldn't be too cool but you do have increased chances for rain. But, it rarely rains all day, rather short rain showers then just cloudy.
As far as where to add another 3 nights (by my calculation), you have a couple of good choices IMO. You could easily add another day or two to Porto or a couple of nights at a Quinta in the Douro valley. But, one of the towns on the Silver Coast would enable visits to Alcobaça, Batalha or Óbidos. It really depends on your preference - small towns and monuments or wine country. Both areas are lovely.
And, if you will be in the Algarve later, you might want to get in your beach time down there. The beaches are pretty spectacular and it should be somewhat warmer.

I like the idea of the small towns. Would Nazare be a good base? Wondering if in November we could book as we go (except for Lisbon and Porto) and decide where we want to be depending on the weather? Also wondering if Braga and perhaps Guimaraes would be day trips from Porto?
