Hi, I'm escaping the gloom of London and going to Faro for 4 days at the end of November. But Faro seems like maybe it's not such a nice destination to chill, soak in some sunshine, and read. What town would you recommend that's 1) easy to get to via public transportation 2) has nice architecture 3) isn't overbuilt or overindustrialized? A hotel pick would be good as well as I can't stand those giant package tour monstrosities. Thank yoU!
Hi,
If you do not need direct beach access - and end Nov is unlikely to have full-on beach weather anyway - then Tavira fits the bill. It is very easy to get too, reasonably well-preserved, and usually less windy than places west of Faro.
It’s as likely to rain as be sunny in late November. You are correct - there are better options than Faro, a working city.
The Algarve isn’t known for its architecture - Lisbon would be a better choice of location for that!
Another vote for Tavira. I would look at the pousada for old world charm.
Tavira definitely!
