Newark to Faro

We're planning a trip to Faro next spring and it looks like we'll have to change planes in Lisbon (United from Newark; TAP to Faro.) Do we go through customs at both airports, and, if so, how much time should we allow between flights?

Customs is a non-event (unless you're carrying contraband in your luggage).

You'll go through immigration in Lisbon as that is where you enter the Schengen Zone,
it will be a domestic flight from Lisbon to Faro.

You should purchase both flights as a single ticket so that you are protected should
your 1st flight run late and you miss the 2nd flight. United and TAP are in the same
alliance so united.com should be able to handle this.

At Newark, they advise arriving three hours before your flight. You will have to show your passport to board the plane but “customs” happens when you come back into the US not when leaving it. Normally 1 1/2 hours is sufficient connecting time in Lisbon if your flight is on time. You go through Immigration and show your passport to the officer there before boarding your flight to Faro. Just follow the signs.

UAL shows a single ticket booking with a 75 minute transfer time in Lisbon. If the airline is selling it, it should be fine. If not, TAP has a flight at 430PM they could put you on should your EWR-LIS flight arrive late.

Is that what you are looking at? ( UAL flt 64 and TAP flt 1901)
