We are spending 3 nights in Porto from Dec 29-Jan 1. I have that one night to spend in between Porto and Sintra. I wanted to explore a bit of Central Portugal that day and spend the night somewhere before getting to Sintra on the 2nd. Is anything open? I don't want to book a hotel and then not have anything open around me. I was looking into Tomar, but I just read that the restaurants close on Monday. Not only is this a Monday, but New Year's Day!!! Any advice? Somewhere to spend the night with a restaurant?

I don't travel in Europe in the winter, but I'd be looking at Coimbra. Surely a city that large will have options. I think.

I agree with Coimbra. It’s big enough that restaurants should be open and a lovely city. It is true that some restaurants close on Monday but in a city that size not all will close.
