My wife and I used Rick Steves Portugal guidebook to have an amazing trip throughout central Portugal in 2013. In it he wrote of a small medieval village that had been wiped out by the plague and was discovered intact decades or centuries later. It also had Roman ruins and possibly a Templar Knights castle. It was truly one of the most amazing travel experiences. A good friend of ours is heading there in April, also using the Steves guidebook, but I couldn't find the name of the village in his copy nor can I remember the name of the village. It might be on the stretch of road in Coimbra/Fatima/Evora central region. Thanks for your help.
Tomar? Only because of Templar Knights reference.
Most likely is Tomar however I'm not aware of Tomar having been wiped out by the plague, there are other less known places related to the Templar Knights.
If you're interested you can check out the Templar route.

Thank you! I will dig deeper into the region around Tomar.
Is there a place to store our luggage if we stop in Tomar on our way to Coimbra? If not, is it worth a day trip from Lisbon?
