Nazare in July as a base . . . what to do

I just found out that we have access to a house for free in Nazare while we are in Portugal in July, and I still have a chunk of my trip unplanned . . . basically from July 4 to July 16. This is what we have booked so far:

Arrive June 23 and go to Sintra for 3 nights . . . then meeting up with friends in Lisbon, a golf resort on the Silver Coast, and 3 days in Porto, checking out of Porto on July 4. Our next reservation at this point is July 16 in Lisbon for 2 more days before we fly back to Vancouver.

I was thinking from Porto we could do a few days in the Douro Valley. Then we want to go to the Azores, but only for a few days. I also noticed that flights are very reasonable to the Azores if you only have a carry on, so we could fly from Nazare and keep our extra luggage there rather than drag it along.

So if you had a free house in Nazare in July, what would you do with your time? We are good for one beach day. What else is worth doing, considering everything else I've outlined? We love trains, but will probably rent a car.

Nazaré can be seen in a day and will likely be very busy and congested in July.

I can only say where we visited in the area around Nazaré. Where you go depends on what you like to see and do. We visited Óbidos, Alcobaca and Batalha monasteries, Fátima, Tomar and the Convent of Christ, and Almourol castle. A little further away are Coimbra and the Conimbriga Ruins. We had a rental car.

I’m not certain Nazaré has an airport, so that’s something you need to check.

I agree with the previous poster about things to do not too far from Nazare. Sao Martinho do Porto and Foz do Arelho are also nice for a visit.

Nazare does not have an airport. You would need to go to Lisbon.

Well I will have to look more into the Navare airport since our host said we are an easy commute to the airport, and I'm finding flights from Nazare to other parts of Portugal. Peculiar.

THANK YOU for pointing out that Nazare does NOT have an airport. I totally misread the information I was given.
