We are traveling to Portugal with a large group of friend in June-July 2025, ending on the Silver Coast. From there my husband and I want to go to Porto. Is it worthwhile to spend a day or two in Nazare, or is that only worth visiting in winter for the big waves. Is there surf at all in early July? (Is it like Southern California, for example?)
There will be minimal surf in July unless there is a freakish storm in the Atlantic. Nazare isn’t a favorite for me. You might want to check out São Martinho do Porto or Foz do Arelho. Or, Espinho, closer to Porto.
Spent two nights there last September and 1 full day was sufficient to see it. I consider it to be a typical tourist beach town. The beach was nice to walk along and we spent a couple hours walking around the upper town. There were no big waves like in the winter and even in September the town was very busy during the day.
Thanks for your feedback and alternative ideas :)
