I must revisit one of the oldest questions about Nazare. Is there an actual bus station yet in 2017? My husband and I have opted to forgo renting a car on our European adventure so busses and trains are the way to go everywhere. Then there is the issue of tickets. Not a problem for us to purchase online but is it necessary to do so before arriving in town? Can someone help me solve the mystery? My RS Portugal from 2015 isn't up to date.
This webpage says there's a bus station. I found the information by Googling and cannot vouch for its accuracy.
Thank you for the Google search. I found this same webpage earlier and it really doesn't give me a lot of confidence. My Hotel can only say "the bus station's a few blocks away". At least they acknowledge that there IS one! :-)
This is the text for the next edition going to press:
Nazaré’s bus station was demolished in 2012 to make way for an apartment building. Since then, a "temporary" ticket office is in a small portable building behind the library on *Avenida do Municipio*, a few blocks inland from the Cultural Center and beach. Buses merely stop along the avenue. A new, permanent station may be built eventually, but it's anyone's guess when or where.
Arriving in town, the last stop should be pretty clear, and you can reconfirm the departure plan while there.
Hi Susan,
I was in Nazare in January and can confirm there is a temporary portable ticket office with helpful staff who speak enough English. It is conveniently located, about ten minutes walk, depending where you're staying. There are also washrooms in the portable and a few chairs. I followed Rick's itinerary and took the bus from Nazare to Batalha on a day trip as well as onwards to Coimbra. There were no issues at all with this temporary bus station.
Happy travels.
