My group is not young and some have mobility issues-not good walkers and zero use of hills. I'm wondering about what I heard was a 30 minute walk uphill or a shuttle to take instead of walking to the Pena Palace. Where exactly is the shuttle? Is there an elevator inside the Palace? How do we gain access to the elevator?
There is a shuttle from the bottom of the hill. Perhaps you can arrange for assistance from where they drop-off to the Palace. It’s not far but it is steep. I believe I saw some people being carted to the the front of the line, while we were waiting.
If memory serves me correctly, there is an elevator that runs. It’s near the restaurant and is near gift shop.
Make note of the hours for the cafeteria. We were standing in line for the cafe for 30 minutes and were 2 people from the counter when some guide came through telling his group to go one level down the stairs to the cafeteria, much better food and no line. Ha. It was not open yet, so we waited with some others for it to open since we had lost our place.
The shuttle bus starts just inside the park entrance and will shuttle you up to the palace.
I believe that the elevator is only operates between the shop, restaurant and cafeteria (including an outside dining area).
I don't think there is any elevator for the tour of the interiors or the exterior terraces which have stairs. There is usually a long line-up and crowds as you explore the interior. You may want to carry a portable stool if you need to sit and rest.
Thank you for the information!
