Megalith tour Evora

We will be traveling from Nazare to Evora and spending one night, leaving the next day for Lagos. Original plan was to stop for an hour in Obidos on the way to Evora from Nazare. See the sights in Evora followed by the 2:30pm megalith tour, finishing up in Evora in the morning before heading to Lagos, hoping to arrive early afternoon. Unfortunately only the morning megalith tour at 10:30am is available the day we arrive in Evora. My question: should we skip Obidos and head for Evora to catch the morning megalith tour then do the sights there and head to Lagos early the next morning? Or take the megalith tour the next morning before driving to Lagos (will cut our time short there-only there 2 nights)? Or skip the megalith tour altogether? We are there mid-late September and lodgings and dates are no longer flexible. Any input or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Are you driving? If so, go on your own. We did just that last Sept leaving Evora on our way to Lagos. Had the place to ourselves.

Yes we are driving. I assumed we needed a guided tour. If you visit on your own is it thee same experience?

There’s no public transportation, so a tour is mandatory for those without a car. We only went to the Almendres Cromlech and spent about an hour there.

The Megalith tour in Evora is really my favorite thing to do in the area and I always recommend it highly to everyone. The archeologist who guides the tour is very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and personable.

Obidos is overrun with big tour bus groups and has become less enjoyable as a result.

If I had the choice, I would definitely opt for the Megalith tour over Obidos.

I too highly recommend the Megalith tour. Without the knowledgeable archeologist explaining things, it would not have been half as interesting. I did see individuals arriving without a tour, but you should take the tour. This was one of my favorite Portugal sights. I did not visit Obidos or Lagos, so can't recommend which should be shortened.

I stopped for a day in Evora on my way from Lagos to Nazare. If you've decided not to do the megalith tour, I'd recomend that you simply book a free walking tour with a woman named Sandra, she was wonderful! just google free walking tours and you should find her! She loves her city and is passionate about sharing it with visitors, and she was very helpful in recommending good restaurants and shops. The tour was about 3 hours, and you tip accordingly at the end.

In Nazare, we did something similar but it was through Airbnb, again, we enjoyed it. Sandy

we stayed in Nazare for two nights during which time, we went on another Airbnb experience and had a walking tour of Obidos. The guide came and picked us up in Nazare and took us back a very scenic route on our return. Again very enjoyable and well worth the $25-$30 we paid. Sandy
