We are looking for comprehensive, informative, easy-to-use, durable maps of Lisbon and Porto. We expect to get around by a combination of walking and public transportation and would like maps that give am overview of where places of interest are and, if possible, public transportation routes, so that we can plan itineraries. Thanks for the help.
I've been traveling since 2002, observing how getting around has evolved.
Higher tech but better than paper I would recommend a tablet or smart phone with Google Maps or some other map ap.
You can map out directions and take screen shots on those in your hotel and access them before you head out
Otherwise the local at the hotel always has maps to give you to point stuff out, give you bus directions and get you oriented.
I always buy Streetwise laminated maps for European cities.
I had great success with a free/cheap tourist map and Ulmon on my iPad/iPhone.
With the paid version of Ulmon maps, you can download them to your device.
I find Ulmon maps to be better than Google maps in showing pedestrian areas and alleys.
