Madrid to Fatima/Lisbon/Sintra and then end in Barcelona

Hi Folks,

I need some advice. My family of 4 will be staying in Madrid April 5-7th. Our plane departs Barcelona on April 12th ending our vacation. My family wants to see Fatima, Lisbon, and Sintra in Portugal. I'm trying to figure out the best way to do this. I was thinking about renting a car in Madrid, stopping in Avila, spending a night in Salamanca on the 8th, then driving to Fatima and staying in Lisbon on the 9th. Exploring Sintra the next day, dropping car off in Seville and flying to Barcelona evening of the 10th.

Seems like a lot driving. Flights from Lisbon to Barcelona are cheap, but dropping the car in Lisbon would result in a large fee. Should I fly from Madrid to Lisbon, and just rent a car there- but then I would miss Avila and Salamanca? Just not sure what's the best way to do this.

Sincerely,
Lloyd

That sounds like you will not actually see Lisbon at all, just the other stops on April 8, 9, and 10. Something has to go and the easiest to cut is all of Portugal. Or cut the smaller towns and fly between the three bigger cities. Overnight train is also an option from Madrid to Lisbon. You could do Avila as a day trip from Madrid, 1.5-2 hours each way.
