We’re planning to be in the Evora area for 3 nights in September as part of our 17 day Portugal trip. Since we are interested in sights outside of the city walls as well as Evora’s center, we’re wondering if it might make sense to stay outside of Evora?
I would say no. Evora is a small town and pretty easy to get in and out of. I know of several hotels with parking, so that wouldn’t be a concern. And, at the end of the day, if you’re looking for dinner, finding a good restaurant in town is easier than outside the walls.
Thanks Wanderlust58! Good information for sure. I will take a look at RS lodging recommendations inside the walls.
We will be in Évora at the end of this month (Feb '25) and have booked Albergaria do Calvário inside the walls. It is recommended by RS and Frommer's plus gets good reviews on booking.com. I will report back after our stay. We have a car and plan to explore the megalithic sights on our way into Évora from Lisbon.
Albergaria do Calvário is where we stayed--couldn't remember the name! It was lovely. The room was large and very comfortable. The hotel is inside, but still close to, the walls for an easy exit. They have underground parking--a bit scary for a bad driver/parker like me, but they were kind enough to park it for me. They were also very helpful in arranging a private cork tour for me and my husband which we enjoyed very much.
in October 2023, we spent a couple of nights at
Évora Olive Hotel
Rua Eborim 18, Évora, Portugal, 7000-659
Location was fine and the rooms were comfortable

If you want somewhere truly incredible, stay a few miles out of town at Convento de Espiniero established in the 1300’s. It is absolutely magnificent. It has a long history of hosting the kings of Portugal throughout the centuries. It’s been restored to a five star hotel that will blow your socks off for a reasonable price. Check out their website to read more of their history. The restaurant is top notch too in a very historic setting. Cheers.
