We are spending 3 extra nights in Portugal after our tour ends in Porto. We are looking to stay in a city outside of Lisbon..any ideas? Flying home from Lisbon. Thanks for any help with this.

Look at Sintra or Cascais.

Depending on where the tour takes you, Coimbra would also be a good choice. It’s right on the train line between Porto and Lisbon.
Either Sintra or Cascais would work. But, you would need to train all the way into Lisbon - then train back, as neither are on the main train line.

We stayed in a small town called ALCACER DO SAL south of Lisbon for a night at a Pousada. There is a river and many small restaurants along the river. But three nights might be a bit boring. It was refreshing to actually use some of the Portuguese we'd picked up as there wasn't a lot of English except at the Pousada.
