Lisbon Location for Rental apt for 1 week (Estrela)

Good morning have been doing a lot of research as to what area to spend 1 week in the last week of October. The one area that I have found some lovely places is the Estrela Area, however I have not been able to find out to much information on it. Can anyone tell me about the area and if it is thought to be a good week home base. So you know we are planning on doing all the normal sights in Lisbon. Will also do a couple day trips ie. Sintra, Cascais, Evora etc. We don't mind having to walk. Liket to try different restaurants each day. Hoping that dining out doors is still an option. When in Spain last Nov we had every meal outside. So with the info above would appreciate any input on Estrela. Many Thanks

Estrela covers a pretty large area, so not knowing a more specific place makes it hard to give definite information. If it is close to the Basilica, you would be close to a nice park and be on the Tram 28 line. Closer to the Antiga Museum is very hilly with only buses for public transport. There is no metro stop in the entire area.
While it wouldn’t be my first choice of where to stay, it would be safe (as most of Lisbon) and have fewer tourists than the more popular area.
Campo de Ourique is close. I stayed there the first month after I moved here. It is quiet, has nice restaurants and a nice Mercado - and few tourists. It also only has a metro stop at the far edge but does have bus service and has the terminus of tram 28.
It really depends on what you want in an area. If you want to escape the tourist hordes and live more like a local, Estrela would be good. If you want to be in the middle of the action, not so much.

Thank you for the input on location. I did a lot more research and we ended up renting an Airbnb in the Bairro Alto Area. It seems very convenient to what we are interested in seeing and has a lovely terrace. We are hoping to do 3 day trips while in Lisbon and will post questions about that on a separate thread. Thanks again.

Hi Cheryl,

Chances are your rental will be "up the hill". There are at least two ways to get up the hill my elevator/escalator. There may be a third. One is the Bairro-Chiaxo (I know I have misspelled this) subway station. The other is the H&M store. And I think there is a third location with an elevator.

Trust me, rather than drag your luggage up hill, you want to utilize one of these three.

Enjoy Lisbon, I loved it the old town. In October tourist numbers should be down and that will make it even better.

Cheryl,
if you are staying anywhere near the Principe Real area, I have a lot of information you may enjoy as we stayed there on both our trips to Lisbon

You can send me a message if you like
