I am in the early stages of planning a trip to Portugal. I have read about a hostel located in the Rossio Railway Station It has great review. Would you find this location convenient to see the city. I know the area around train station can sometimes be a little sketchy in some cities.

I would think that would be fine. From my memory (I was there last year) that area wasn't too sketchy, you'd just have to worry about pickpockets like any other european city. And in terms of location the railway station is pretty good.
The area around Rossio is one of the main touristy areas of the city. With the train station and metro stop, you can get most places in the area.
As the other poster mentioned, pickpockets would be the only caution and that is true in all the touristy areas of Lisbon.
