Lisbon with a 6 year old- neighborhood advice

Hello- planning our first trip to Portugal and will be staying in Lisbon for 5-6 nights - I don't know the city at all, and was looking for neighborhood advice - I was leaning towards Baixa because it is centra with lots of stuff near bye. It is also close to train station for trips to Sintra, etc. Anyone have advice? Would like to be around cafes, parks, and the usually "tourist stuff" but also be able to cash back in the room for an afternoon rest before going back out.

Also- if anyone has anyone recommendations of things that are child friendly, I am all ears

Baixa is central but it’s a very busy, noisy commercial and transit area for this reason. Just adjacent to it are the Bairro Alto and neighboring Chiado districts. They are much more residential, give you access to the Rossio train station ( for Sintra) and offer a lot of local color such as the Manteigaria Bakery. The fun Santa Justa elevator and the Bica Funicular (“Elevador de Santa Justa” and “Elevador da Bica”) can both be used to get between the Bairro Alto/Chiado neighborhoods and the Baixa district to access St.George’s Castle and the Alfama district beyond.

I stayed in the Baixa district this past March, at the Hotel Santa Justa. I thought this was a great area, super convenient. And it is flat. I would stay in that area again. My one complaint was with the annoying restaurant workers, but for me, that does not outweigh the convenience of the area. I walked, or rode the elevators, everywhere. Like you mentioned, it was nice to come back to the hotel throughout the day.

I bet the 6-year old would love the castle with the peacocks. It was a highlight for me.
