My husband and I will be in Portugal for the first time and will stay in Lisbon for a week in November. I’m struggling to figure out where to stay. Also, we want an apartment, if anyone has any suggestions. Thanks for any advice you can provide.
Hello Andrea
I spent a few days in Lisbon and it is simply wonderful.
Lisbon is very hilly and so I chose to stay in the Baixa area because it is one of or maybe the only flat area and I have issues with a problem knee and feet. Walking can sometimes be a problem but especially walking up and down hills.
I stayed at the Be Poet Baixa Hotel which is a three star boutique hotel, highly recommended. Loved the location. Loved walking from one end of Rua Augusta to the other.
The Alfama neighborhood is the most memorable for many. This tree lined hilly castle district is the most inviting with fado music playing in the background at night, eating al fresco style and a scenic area to take photos.
My wife and I stayed in Lisbon in Aug 2023, and found our apt to be well-located and well-furnished. A link to it is in our trip report (part 4): https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/trip-reports/trip-report-portugal-aug-sep-porto-coimbra-lisbon-then-to-spain
GeoffB, thank you for your link to your trip report. It is very informative and useful to me since we will be in Porto, Coimbra and Lisbon, with day trips from Porto and Lisbon.
