We enjoy country side, small towns, nature, food, culture over big city. We are family of 4, 2 boys 7&9. Going for 10 nights mid june. Want to spend goid enough of time in Azores, and remaining in either Lisbon or Porto. Both Lisbon and Porto might be too much. At this moment we fly in and out of Lisbon. But can look for alternatives
We did like Lisbon, but Porto, much more. In Porto we walked everywhere and felt it much more manageable to get around. I liked the size and vibe of Porto, and the river.
We just went with our two teens. We all enjoyed Lisbon much more than Porto. Porto was too crowded for us with tourists (and it was off-season) & too much street construction going on. It was nice, but we could have stayed less time here and more time in Lisbon. Just our experience and we are not people who normally enjoy big cities.
If you’re flying in and out of Lisbon then just do Lisbon. It’s the capital and has lots to see. Porto is great but there seems little point travelling there on a whim when it’s less convenient and you would like to see Lisbon anyway.
The larger and more well-known of the two cities is Lisbon, although Porto is frequently referred to as the heart and soul of Portugal due to its classic old-world charm. Before visiting Lisbon and subsequently Porto, I was unaware of how drastically different these two cities are from one another.
