Lisbon transfer EES

Hello:

Back from S Spain, but used TAP via Portugal, this is my EES experience, US passport:

Arrived Tuesday 21 Apr, 5 am, along with multiple other flights (we're in an A321XLR so not a huge plane). First, we had no jet bridge, so stairs + bus. No EES kiosks were working, and I had downloaded the Travel to Europe app as well! So in line we go. There were many of us w short connections, I had 1 hr 45. We got conflicting info from one Orange or Pink coat, then they would argue, and we'd be fine. Finally, a few of us just cut the line after about 20 minutes of waiting and did EES with an officer, they all had no zip to their steps; but once I spoke to an officer, the fingerprint phase and photo was very quick. My 2nd flight to Sevilla was already boarding.

The return? EES was painless once we arrived from Sevilla (Tuesday around 1030) (btw, had to get on another bus upon arrival, no jet bridge). . Maybe 5 minutes in line to see an officer. It was cool to see my time remaining in Schengen on the screen when he scanned my chip. I also had a short connection here, but my 2nd flight to Boston was a little delayed.

But THEN. I almost ended up in ANOTHER passport line that was wrapped around - with no signs - but thankfully the orange coat told me how to get to my gate (N26). And then everyone on my flight, even though we weren't boarding, was IN A LINE at the gate! They did 100% passport v boarding pass checks (not sure if this is normal, but I've never experienced it at any other EU airport). And then we were allowed in our actual gate area where we waited, and waited. That flight was 20 minutes late departing. At least we got a jet bridge to get on THIS plane.

Bottom line? Doesn't seem like Lisbon is ready for prime time at all. You'd think they'd be so organized with signage everywhere that everyone in the terminal would know where to go and have ample time to spend $$ (because that's what it's all about) at the vendors... I had none. Didn't have time to pee. No time to buy an extra drink or snack for the plane...

I know there's construction but at this point, folks? AVOID.

I went through Lisbon earlier this year while EES was suspended there. For our flight to the US, security cleared everyone from the gate area and then did the passport/boarding pass check as you described. They attributed it to TSA requirements.

We went came into and left thru Lisbon a few years ago. It was chaotic before EES so I’m not at all surprised by your comments. I especially liked the passport officer yelling at my husband for answering a call from our pickup service, we were so late from the time we had touched down that they were concerned we were lost.
