Lisbon Tram travel

As an alternative to Tram 28, which seems like it's very crowded, bumpy, and prone to pickpocketing, we're thinking of trying the #25E tram in order to take in the scenery. Any thoughts about this? Is it comparable to the 28? Anyone know how often the 25 runs? I have the operating hours, but not how long one has to wait for the tram.

Also, the #12 tram that Rick Steves mentions sounds interesting. Again, how often does it run. We thought we'd take cabs to the castle and other places, but these trams sound like a fun experience!

We plan to get the Viva Viagem card, so we can hop on and off.

Thanks,
Lisa

Can't speak for 25 but for a shorter, uncrowded ride in historic rolling stock, I enjoyed the 24 back in 2019. Gets you from Camoes square to Principe Real neighborhood (a pretty stretch) and beyond (less pretty).

We waited in the (yes, long) line at the start of the 28 line, rode it all the way to the end, got off and right back on, and rode it all the way back. Saw lots of neighborhoods including the alfama and had an entertaining afternoon for very little money.
